Comparison of Polar Fourier transform and Zernike Moments in term of Reconstruction

The polar Fourier transform [1] is a newly proposed variantion of the Fourier transform. It provides both angular and radial decomposition of an image.

Zernike moments have found a lot applications because they outperform other moment-based methods [2].

The basis function of the polar Fourier transform has the same angular part as that of the Zernike polynomial. The differences lies therefore on the radial part.

In this work, the polar Fourier transform will be compared with the Zernike moment-based method in terms of image reconstruction.

The student needs to finish some of the following tasks:

  • implementing programs for decomposing the images
  • comparing the performance with different number of components with/without the presence of noise
